Common mistakes people make when starting their wave process is starting when their hair is to short, using the wrong brush, and brushing to much.
You should let your hair grow out before starting your brushing. The proper length to start brushing varies depending on your hair type. A good length to start is once your hair is long enough that you can't see your scalp. Brushing when your scalp is still visible can iritate your scalp and make it sore. Also this is a good length to get your hair cut to.
The type of brush you use is very important. You should choose a brush that bristles aren't to hard and not to soft. A medium brush would be the perfect starter brush for waves. A brush that is to hard can iritate your scalp, especially if your hair is really short, and a brush that is to soft may not push the hair enough to stretch out the curl to form a wave.
Waves come, and improve over time, so be patient and don't over brush. To start you should brush occasionally throughout the day, 5-10 minutes here and there. After a few days you can increase how much you brush and keep increasing how long you brush as the weeks past.
This is also a good time to experiment with different hair products. I don't like to recommend hair products because everyone works differently based on your hair type and how you use it. But keep in mind products don't create waves, only brushing do.
Now remember when I said this method is simple? Well I'm a sum it up in 1 sentence.
Apply product of choice to your hair and brush just like I am in my brushing video, durag, and repeat.....360
